![]() The problem is, the best metamagics to stack all take concentration, when means you don't want to use them, because 5th level spell down the drain. Especially since one of the major benefits is being able to stack metamagics. okay? I mean that is one more use of most metamagics on average, but it isn't ground-breaking. Is Sorcery Incarnate any good?ĥth level spell, which is a bit pricy, and concentration. Most spells are best against a single type of enemy, and so mixed groups are a challenge. It can shut down a caster for a turn, break concentration, wipe out minions, and damage brutes (with a low chance of severely hampering the brutes) all with a single spell. Which, fascinatingly to me, makes this one of the best spells to throw at a mixed group of enemies. And any brutes in the area who are going to make the save? They still take damage. And remember, you are likely to have access to almost all of these after rolling, with good chances of just shutting down casters. You are rarely going to hit a caster with that and have it stick. Now, yes, if you want to incap a bunch of enemies, then Hypnotic Pattern can be better, but it also hits a mental save. Poisoned -> Enemies who fail have disadvantage on every attack Incapped -> Enemies who fail the save lose their turnīlinded -> Enemies who fail have disadvantage on every attack, we have advantage to hit them, and any spellcaster's that fail can't use spells (because pretty much every spell requires line of sight)įear -> Enemies who fail have disadvantage on every attack, and cannot approach you ![]() The thing I really think applies here though is. I mean, I know it would be rare, but you could potentially damage and incap 8 enemies with this single spell. Arcane Eruption has a chance to incapacitate multiple enemies. Right, but you laid the difference down right there. if we compare this to a 4th level fireball (aka 9d6 damage assuming fireball doesn't get nerfed.which it certainly might), is the ability to shift your energy type and throw on a variable control effect worth 3d6 damage? I think it is. When your a controller you HATE randomness, you want your thing to work as consistently as possible, and HP offers the better bargain here. However, if your focus is on control, I think the consistency of HP (both in effect and in saving throw) will likely win you over. Also the high variety of energy types is going to be very appealing to you, as well as no-concentration. The way I see this is, if your a damage focused sorc, they you can lay on damage and get in a nice control effect, which is just solid. It is worth noting that HP works in silence, which again is a useful niche to note. ![]() 1 minute is obviously longer, but with AE I can still pound on the damage without waking them up. However, HP is consistent (which is quite important) and the wisdom save is definately a better option.ĪE works on things immune to charm which is a niche to note. ![]() AE has the better area, and obviously does damage (that's practically irresistable considering the number of types you can draw from). 1 minute or until take damage, action to wake ![]()
